High School Equivalency (HSE)/GED

The High School Equivalency/GED program is designed to help students prepare for passing their HSE/GED exam.
The HSE/GED program offers instruction in reading, writing, math, social studies, and science. Other offered classes focus on how to acheive success on your academic and career goals.
Class Schedule
Heartland offers various daytime and evening HSE/GED classes. Classes generally meet for three hours a day, three times a week.

Classroom Environment
Your teacher will get to know you, your strengths, weaknesses and goals and will plan lessons to meet your needs.
Your studies will likely include reading, writing, social studies, science and math.
We can also help you prepare for the U.S. and Illinois Constitution exam, which is required for the High School Equivalency Certificate.
Enrollment Requirements
- HSE/GED students must be 16 or older in age. Any student under the age of 18 will have to fill out a high school release form before attending classes.
- HSE/GED students must be be able to meet all English proficiency requirements to participate in the program.
Cost
All classes are paid for by state and federal grants. You pay nothing.

Normal Campus
- You must make a testing appointment before you can start class.

- Testing usually takes four hours. During the testing session, you will complete paperwork, take a placement test and meet with a staff member to discuss your goals.
- After testing, you must attend a program orientation before you can begin class.
