Alumni Spotlight-Amy Wohlford, R.T.

2013: Heartland Community College, Associate of Science, Radiologic Technology/Science – Radiographer
2008: Illinois State University, Bachelor’s Degree, Public Relations, Advertising and Applied Communication
Recently selected for The Pantagraph’s 2016 20under40 recognition, Amy Wohlford, R.T. (R) is one of the growing list of Heartland graduates to watch!
Amy FIRST graduated from Illinois State University in 2008 with a degree in communications. After getting into the workforce and gaining some managerial and communications experience, she felt as though something was missing. Amy also felt compelled to pursue a career in the medical field and started searching for options.
She selected the Radiologic Technology program at Heartland Community College to further her education and focus in on a specialized career path noting that she loved that the Heartland program offered an Associate’s degree rather than just a certificate. The radiologic technology program proved intense but relatively quick, and Amy felt the freedom to continue working part time while at Heartland.
Pursuing a Passion
Amy feels strongly that she pursued a passion by going back to college, even as a graduate from a 4-year university. The specialized training allowed her to dial-in on a career path. Today, Amy puts to great use BOTH her degrees. As the Practice Liaison at Fort Jesse Imaging & Gale Keeran Center for Women, Amy is able to keep up to date on the clinical side of the radiology field while meeting people all over the community and having important discussions with referring physician offices and their staff members.
Amy was recognized for her marketing efforts by The Association for Medical Imaging Management in 2015. Amy is a member of the McLean County Chamber of Commerce, NeXt Professionals and Bloomington/Normal Jaycees. She sat on the 2016 Race for the Cure planning committee and is a board member of Pink Partners of the Community Cancer Center.
